Future Of Online Advertising

There are many methods of internet marketing. It also has many different names such as online advertising, marketing online, search engine marketing, web site traffic, search engine optimization, organic traffic, banner ads, text ads, adsense. The list goes on and on.

The bottom line is that online advertising is the process of bringing a web surfer to a web page. The process of doing this has become used and abused. Advertising online has never changed, but how people learn about web pages or sites is changing. With newer technology of targeting traffic to a web page, it becomes easier to deliver geo-targeted ads. With keyword targeting displaying relevant ads becomes even easier and the success rate of click-throughs increases.

The internet marketing trend is just starting to explode as these technologies begin to be applied in all advertising media formats. From web pages, TV and radio and maybe even news print one day. However, this land of advertising mediums is ever changing because more competition is beginning to enter the market place. With the recent media of Microsoft trying to bid for Yahoo, it is a clear sign that we are in the height of the S-curve of this trend.

As with all market trends, as they go through the S-curve we begin to see more mergers and acquisitions because the trend has now began its climb towards 90% of advertising to be done through digital media.

The major attraction to digital advertising is that the results are measurable. News print and magazines can boast the volume of readers, but that is a mis-nomer. How many times to people pick up a newspaper and read every advertisement or article written. So the click-through rate on print ads are probably much less than the readership they boast.

With digital media you can track possibly down to the neighborhoods of where most people are showing interest in a particular keyword and then targeting ads based on Geo-IP becomes easier and results are trackable. As businesses begin to realize this potential, we should finally see less flyers and mail-outs jam-filling mailboxes. Less flyers should help the environment although we might not feel as green without toilet paper manufactured from recycled materials :)

The future of online advertising is going to gain major growth in its use in the coming years, just like anything else when we find a better, easier more convenient way of doing things eventually it becomes the norm. Online advertising or internet marketing is already taking shape. There probably is barely 1 website you can visit today that does not have some type of media ad displayed. Wether it is a banner ad, text ad, or contextual advertising, there is something for visitors to click through to another page.

The future of flyers is basically e-flyers that arrive in our inboxes. We can block most of the unwanted online advertsing using filters. Although e-flyers have been tagged with the term SPAM, it is basically man's 21st century solution to flyers. Like it or not, they are here to stay. As disguised as they may be flyers have and always will be annoying.

I agree. Last year alone (2007) businesses including dentists increased their dental Internet marketing budget by 17%. At the same time, TV, Radio, Newspapers, and other media ads did not grow at all. Good article.
